Working Bee with Te Ra School on Matai Huka (Friday 25 November)
Everybody had a great time on the Matai Huka Ridge and the weather was very cooperative. After checking the kids for sun cream and sunhats, we took off up the track. They all looked out for the trees they had planted on the last visit. The grass was almost waist high, so there was plenty releasing work. The plastic sleeves are attracting hundreds of snails and they are eating some
of our young seedlings. The snails seem to like sticking to the plastic and they probably quite like the warm fug inside. We climbed to the June Rowland Lookout at lunch time and got views to Kapiti, then talked about native forest on nearby hills. Then we had awards for some people who worked very hard, and released more than 100 trees. Thanks to kids, overseas visitors and teacher for a great fun time.
Hope to see you at our working bees in the coming months!
Working Bee on the Escarpment - 27th November.
The weather so far has been good for our plants. A bit too good, as the weeds have taken off as well! This is the reason we are organising a Working Bee on Sunday the 27th of November at 9:30 until 12:30 to clear the weeds around our trees. The terrain can be as challenging as you want, from flat to hill. Go to the events calandar and register so we know who is turning up.
It would be great if you can join us, many hands make light work!
