*  QE2 Trust & the farm owner placed a convenant on the bush remnants
*  2006 - Nga Uruora volunteers begin fencing

Paekakariki-Pukerua Bay EscarpmentPaekakariki-Pukerua Bay Escarpment

Our flagship project is a challenging forest restoration on the spectacular stretch of coastline between Paekakariki and Pukerua Bay boasting:

*  15 hectares of original kohekohe forest
*  20 hectares of regenerating kohekohe forest
*  rare plant species
*  and many other pockets of valuable forest, bush and flax
Since 2002 Nga Uruora's volunteers and workers have:

  • planted 10's of thousands of endemic trees and plants (from locally sourced seed)
  • installed our locally famous irrigation system
  • carried out an intensive weed & animal pest control operation (ongoing)
  • initiated a planting monitoring system (ongoing)

With the support of the QE 2 National Trust, Tranz Metro Ltd, and the funding organisations shown on the acknowledgements page (and many others), we are already well along the way to creating an intensively managed sanctuary for native plants, birds, lizards and insects.
